Sunshine
This film moved me. It made me proud. It made me thank fellow Filipino filmmakers for making such a phenomenal movie. This film helps us move one step closer to a perfect society, even if it is just a little (it was a lot).
Maris Racal was so good, she deserves an award for this istg. This perfectly highlights what young pregnant Filipino women experience. All this time, everyone blames them. It is so sad that once a girl gets pregnant, her whole life, image, and future is belittled by just an unborn child who doesn’t even have consciousness. Even if they are not responsible for it! Yung batang na rape? Tangina. Miggy? Fuck him man, kapal ng mukha to tell her to immediately abort the child and slip away from the responsibility THEY (not she) created. “Nasarapan ka rin naman ah”, BOBO. The men, they move on. They are allowed to quietly slip away without judgment and fear, because they are, well, men. Blame the fuckass stupid patriarchy we have. Also the application of religious guilt, was perfectly shown. This is why we don’t move on as a society. We let religion run our laws, and this gives us such close minded ideologies. Women can never win. Every time a woman makes a decision for HERSELF, there is always a side comment about how it is wrong. Worst part is, due to the toxic and fucked up society we built, women do this to other women too. Not only that, this film also highlights how in manila, it is known to be thug, tuff, and have a gang life. Despite that, everyone in this life also face their own challenges, and some of them even still shows care and support for fellow Filipinos, and that’s what shows our country’s spirit. Helpers of our neighbors.
