Poltergeist

Excellent film. It combines Steven Spielberg charm with eerie horror and supernatural mystery. Where this movie shines is its creative use of practical effects and original concept for the time. Tobe Hooper nailed it with this one. Even the few cheesy moments are easily forgivable as they are still cool to watch like the face ripping scene. It also maintains an element of mystery, not revealing what the beast truly is. Neither sequel could live up to this great kickoff.
