Waves
It’s an emotional trainwreck that has some of the best cinematography I’ve seen in a long time. Everything is clearly meticulously crafted to best fit whatever is being told in the story, which is really the only thing that can make someone keep interest in such a tragic plot.
Every performance is great, nothing truly remarkable, but fits really well in a film that is clearly valuing technical ambition over storytelling. Really the only thing keeping this movie going is it’s technical ability, but it’s story is extremely strong, and the characters are treated with so much compassion that the film never winds up feeling pretentious.
One of the best of the year.
