Perfect Blue
I don’t know where to start with this review—this film was just incredible.
I love art-house films, and this is no exception.
I was hesitant to see it, but I’m very glad I did.
It speaks about the dangers of social media—before social media even existed.
It also dwells on other topics, like personality, identity, stress, and trauma. Overall, a very important film.
I thought I understood one thing and knew it all—oh boy, I was wrong. So, so wrong.
The story is very complex; I don’t understand half of it. But that’s what makes the film so beautiful—the mystery element.
It’s hauntingly beautiful.
Real horror doesn’t have to rely on jump scares or shocking moments. It can be psychological, like this. My brain hurts after finishing it.
And that’s coming from me—I’m not a big anime fan, but I might have to become one if I’ve been missing out on bangers like this.
Definitely worth a watch for anyone. I might have to rewatch it.
I should watch foreign films more often.
