It’s one of those films you watch because it’s the most disturbing and I can see why people recommend this. But it didn’t work for me. Once the Initial shock wears off with the “realistic torture” and “realistic plot” of some dudes being weird and psychotic. I just felt bored and even found the movie tedious. The only worthwhile aspect honestly is the entire aesthetic of the project. I just think it’s cool, the grainy dirty look into a sadistic duo that unironically makes such a horrifying act to do to another person just feel mundane.

The first one felt like watching a bunch of bozos be evil. It felt authentic and something that a bunch of psychos would do. The grainy footage and aesthetic of the entire thing and the banality of it all made it feel disturbing and real atleast for the first 30 minutes for me before it started being boring. The sequel on the other hand just pushes everything to the 11th degree and it’s far worse for doing so. Feels like I’m watching a slapstick cartoon with “realism” filter turned on. If you watched the 1st one you’ve watched this one except it just feels too try hard to be more disturbing, more blood and gore, more torture, more vomit. More more more and you start to doze off as the movie goes on as the one trick it has, which is the fact it’s “disturbing” wears off very quickly. If this peaks your interest go ahead watch the first one. It’s like a rite of passage for disturbing films. Just don’t expect this to be a particular good horror film or a good film at all.

I didn’t care for any of the characters at all. They annoy me for most of the run time. I don’t get the hype at all.

1. TJ Miller being blown up and then Michael Bay’s own car drives through his ashes and smoke because he hated him is funny as hell 2. That Romeo and Juliet law scene is so out of pocket and is what the movie will always be remembered for 3. It’s a funny movie. I had a good time
