There's a lot about this to love - I really liked the overall messaging, some of the set pieces were insane and I was never really bored throughout, it's one of the rare 3 hour films that does justify it's runtime. Some of the casting choices I just don't vibe with though (but not for anti-woke reasons like a lot of people have) - I just didn't feel that immersed in a Greek epic when Tom Holland is there with a couple other questionable choices, and obviously it loses points for them casting a complete piece of shit like Travis Scott. Matt Damon gives a good performance, but doesn't match up with who I think Odysseus should be as a character. He seemed way bigger and more shredded than even Menelaus and Agamemnon which is odd, and gives the impression of being a hardened warrior way more than the cunning genius/strategist I feel he normally is. Samantha Morton, Lupita Nyongo and Elliot Page are absolute highlights though, and even though I was sceptical about Zendayas casting by the end of the film it actually works really well. Morton's Circe is exactly how I've pictured the character before and she absolutely nails her limited screen time in my favourite part of the film, the weird physicality her magic had was such a cool effect

Knowing this was a horror film about a trans allegory, I really wanted to like this. However it ended up being pretty boring, and I know films don't need to be fun to have artistic merit but I didn't feel any of the weight of the emotional messaging behind the film alongside it not being entertaining. Even with the themes of queer self-acceptance, I just found myself not relating to it in the slightest. I've seen other people be really emotionally affected by it who empathise loads with the characters, and I love that for them but to me the performances felt so wooden and lacking nuance I just didn't care about it at all

Not that my expectations were high, but there's basically no narrative or any kind of arc for any character and so it's just a 2 hour pointless montage of the same old rehashed shit

Really loved the first 80% of this film and the dialogue was so good until the ending which just doesn't make any sense given the context we had about the main suspect. Low-key ruined the film for me
