Solaris
Tarkovsky has been a very daunting director for me. I've been putting off his films for a while now out of fear that I wouldn't like them. I can confidently say that I was stupid, because this was one of the craziest, and one of best Sci fi's I have ever seen. One of the most interesting plots I've ever watched, the idea of it alone is masterful, let alone the execution of it. One of my favorite parts about it are the visuals of Solaris, they give such a eerie familiarity that makes your skin crawl.
This movie is very quiet for the majority, so much so that I could hear my family talk from upstairs, and whilst watching it, I felt like maybe they were missing out by not adding so many songs. But then the ending came along, and that beautifully devastating song fades in, and the quietness of the film beforehand makes this ending score hit SO MUCH HARDER, worth it in the end. One of the greatest endings to a film.
