Superman
i walked out of the movie theater with a renounced hope for humanity and with an immense willingness to be the best version of myself. that is what a good movie does to you. James Gunn did an amazing job at creating the perfect balance between Clark Kent and Superman. there have been good characterizations of Superman such as in Smallville but never like this before. unfortunately, Snyder has done irrevocable damage to the image of Superman, what he truly represents, and has only focused on highlighting the Super about Superman. whereas Gunn shines light on who Superman truly is and not just what he can do by delving what is beyond the cape and emblem.
it's repeatedly stressed in the movie that Superman is not a mask he wears to fight villains; he's an extension of the values instilled in him by the Kents. that's what i love so much about this movie!!! the cape doesn't make him Superman, it's his compassion thatt does. his superpowers are simply tools and in reality it's his character that makes him a hero. he represents the best parts within humanity!!! that is why it was easy to empathize and love this version of Superman because rather than being an unapproachable god as in the Man of Steel, Superman is a moral compass. he encourages us not to be perfect, but to strive for goodness, no matter how flawed or uncertain we are. he inspires people due to the choices he makes and not because of the power he displays. the best part of it all is the prominent message that anyone can embody Superman’s values: courage, kindness, truth, and hope. thse are not exclusive to superheroes; they’re human ideals.
i also want to gush about how i love that Superman stands side by side with humanity and doesn't stand above it like a deity. he stands with the world, shoulder to shoulder, inspiring others by living as proof that decency still matters in a cynical world. he inspires us to do good through human choices, the kind anyone, super or not, can make, and not grand displays of power. he reminds us that being a real hero is about using whatever you do have such as your voice, your compassion, and your presence to help others!! this Superman is not a distant, untouchable figure. he’s someone who chooses to do good, even when it’s difficult, even when it costs him something. and that choice is what resonates. he makes us believe that being good still matters. and most importantly he gives the needed message that anyone, and i mean anyone, can be a hero!!!!
