The Menu
i am left speechless as i type this. the menu is a perfect cynical satire that serves up biting commentary on the artifice of haute cuisine and the outlandish elitism that pervades contemporary society. the film draws a sharp contrast between the opulence of the restaurant and the discomfort of its guests, exposing the absurdity of their indulgence. each course of the meal becomes more unsettling, mirroring the escalating tension in the room. the further the film advances, the more it becomes evident that slowik’s performance is an act of revenge against the entitled individuals who have perhaps taken the art of fine dining—and the people who create it—too far. i find the ending to be the most beautiful example. even in their final moments, death is apart of the delicacy, and at their core, they're rich people obsessed with the luxury of being special.
