Aftersun
Smaller films such as Aftersun deserve such a wider audience than they get. The dynamic between Calum and Sophie is really great, as he tries to navigate adult issues such as depression and anxiety in a way that won’t affect his daughter. On the flip side, Sophie views these issues around her innocently through the lens of a child and at times doesn’t understand them which leads to frustration between her and Calum. The colour palette is so pretty and the entire film just has a lush crisp look to it and it’s masterfully done. There’s no big point where things kick off or anything like that, you just get to watch as the two characters develop throughout their holiday- which is done in such a way that you truly feel for the both of them. I’m glad I watched Aftersun, and I’ll think of it whenever I hear Losing My Religion.
