surprised how they made a 2 hour movie out of a guy stuck in a whale. the whole movie is obviously visually impressive but they somehow managed to keep the pace up for the entire movie. i loved the flashbacks to the scenes with his father, and none of them felt out of place. i actually love Austin Abram’s acting for movies like this - i am also the type of person to talk to myself and make dumb jokes whilst being eaten alive. you’re definitely getting what you’re paying for, but unfortunately there’s not much else they could’ve possibly done with this plot.

take this review with a grain of salt because for the first time ever, i left before the movie ended. i’d usually never do this but this movie was insufferable for me. i’m such a huge fan of Andrew Garfield but this whole movie fell flat for me. i’m not a big fan of this genre as a whole anyway so that might’ve had something to do with it, but there wasn’t a single interesting moment. the camera work was completely pissing me off too. lowkey think watching this movie actually made my day worse.

honestly a big disappointment for me. i was really hyped going into this as the trailer looked so good, but half the scenes from the trailer weren’t even in the movie. it had such a high potential as well, but was executed so poorly. i feel like the family came into contact with the Other Mommy way too quickly. the ending felt pretty lacklustre as well but i guess it was a good night out with the bros. also, there’s no chance that had “50 jumpscares”.

i’m not sure why this movie is getting so much hate. i haven’t personally read the book so it might not be a good adaptation, but as a standalone movie, it’s great. the plot itself is really good and has lots of different twists, and i really liked the use of flashbacks. i thought the cast had some good chemistry, and i also didn’t expect the plot twist at the end. only downside to this movie is that there’s quite a lot of plot holes i can think of, but they’re all pretty spoiler-heavy so i won’t mention them.
