For every cool shot here there’s a bafflingly bad bout of direction and/or a display of Refn’s fetish on screen. There’s absolutely no interest in telling a story or conveying a concise message. For the first time in years I was begging for a movie to end. Just appalling.

This is objectively a really funny direction to take for something like this. Incredibly charming up until the plot started actually happening and you remember that you’re watching a minions movie. Pointing at the screen whenever I recognized something was fun!

Revered for a reason. This was sick as hell, and I can’t wait to see it again. This has the best use of non-linear story telling ever I’ve seen in a movie. The timeline genuinely made you feel like you had the same condition as Leonard as you figure out what the hell is even happening.

I mean yeah, it’s good. The editing felt frantic at times (especially in the beginning), and visually not that much really blew me away (the Underworld looked great though). It felt silly to use the 70 mm camera gimmick when half of the shots are closeups of the (very famous) actors’ faces or wide shots of the ship lol. That’s all nitpicking what’s otherwise a really good movie though. The sound design went beast mode, and the two horror scenes (you’ll know them when you see them) were generational. One thing you really can’t deny here is the scale and passion that went into it. No one besides Nolan can really make an event out of a movie like this. Additional note: I love Agamemnon’s armor. It goes hard. I don’t care.
