The Conjuring
How to write a review for the movie that 10 years ago made me fall in love with cinema, horror movies industry, James Wan and Vera Farmiga. I grew up with this movie, i can't count how many time i watched it and it remains a masterpiece. It remains a masterpiece by the way either from a 2013 perspective or today point of view this movie is an innovation to the genre. James Wan proposing intense scenes that don't deliver the jump scare right away or at all, building an unending pressure of a complex atmosphere where nothing can be anticipated. The camera work is wonderful, with this mythic sequence shot of the family moving into the house, showing subtly the set and the characters. Wide shots, overlooking several rooms, heighten the fear of a danger that can come from anywhere, as in the scene where the cop thinks he's seen something and we, the viewer, actually see something in another room, putting us in the same doubt as the character. I also really like the scene where Christine looks under the bed, and we see the door open in the distance, although in the end we don't even see the entity directly. It's a process that's used a lot in the film, which adds fear of the unknown, we discover the entities as the characters or the Warrens do. When you think about it, every time an entity returns to the screen, it gets closer and more detailed. Outside of Joseph Bishara incredible original soundtrack, the music choice is also incredible, right down to the lyrics, perfectly matching the status of the narrative. Of course, the sets, colors and costumes are absolutely perfect, just like the atmosphere.
Last but not least, the Warren couple, played by Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson. They're wonderful, and I'm so happy to have been able to follow their respective projects for all these years. Vera Farmiga has always been my favorite actress, and her performance in this film is outstanding.
This film, this saga, this universe, will always be number one in my heart.
