Backrooms
I'm somewhat of an Backrooms OG 😎, which is probably also the reason why I both was really exited about this movie but also very skeptical (which is also because previously I wasn't such a fan of Kane Parson's interpretation of the Backrooms) but I have to say I likely have never seen, heard, read or whatever something that grasped, portrayed, interpreted, realized the concept and essence of the Backrooms so well and fittingly.
This one stuck with me for a while, as it should be because a Backrooms film is supposed to be mysterious, weird and also somewhat nigh-nonsensical but also not just cheaply random without concept or intent or pretentiously pseudo mind-bending.
So naturally one has to think about all that happened, for one on a subject level to understand what happened and theorize how the introduced concepts work within the world of that film. And on the other hand also on a sublayer, what the meaning of all those things are, how to interpret events and characters.
Speaking of characters, I found those really intriguing. The film focuses on very few personas, mainly two those are, but those are really interesting and also in some regards unconventional for movie protagonists, for example that throughout the film we slowly get to know and experience that the initial protagonist (Clark) is actually a quite a different person than we thought. But not in some plot twist way. No, it's actually done quite intelligently, whereas we just get to know the person and his character better and slowly develop a different view of him (maybe even only after finishing watching the film).
And remember kids, if you ever happen to no-clip out of reality just come to Level Fun to have a merry time!
