i did not expect to adore this film so much absolute comedic genius i knew nothing about this before hand or even Jacques Tati but man was this memorising. once i realised the dialogue wasn’t important this became a masterpiece.  a perfect showcase of set design and the most impeccably precise extras direction where no matter where you look in the frame there’s something new to notice. the intricacy in the sound design is astonishing, using dialogue as rhythm rather than the actual words is simply hypnotic.  you can tell just how influential this was on the majority of the auteur-titled directors of our modern day.
