Boogie Nights
still not ready for a palette cleanser with this run i've been having over the past 2 weeks.
there's many ways to interpret this beautiful collage of the colorfully dark trifecta of sex, drugs, and violence and their lengthy truths. i think i'm choosing music to highlight on this rewatch.
i think it's pretty scary, but alluring how much music can put sorts of spells over us. this rewatch made me remember and revist the place where part of my love for this era of music came from (mainly the first maybe third of the movie). the addictive qualities of these songs & records stand the test of time, and have turned out to be some of the most referenced or even sampled across all genres. there's just too much ear candy sprinkled all across and through these songs where they absorb you in so ceaselessly, even when the qualities have been pitched, slowed, or reversed. it's like these things have sort of an "endless" spell. and this film draws you in as smoothly as these songs do. and it's like the taboo topics of which the movie revolves around are cruising around the same speed this groove is, but then it reminds you that it is a film, and a film changes dynamics sometimes as fast and immediate as songs can change their tempos. you're taken under the spell without delay.
also there's like 500 dick jokes so it's pretty funny.
