Okay, so *Licorice Pizza *is an interesting one for me. I really liked the cinematography, I think it was gorgeous (as are most PTA movies). The score was decent, and the acting was pretty good. I really liked Alana Haim. I think the writing was decent for the most part. That said, there are a few things I didn't like. First was the age gap. I can't get past the fact that Alana is 25 in the film, and she's crushing on a 15-year-old. It seems more like a shock factor than anything because their age isn't really necessary to the plot. I also didn't like the ending so much. I really wish it leaned more on Alana learning to move on from Gary and finally accept herself as an adult, but nope. Gary was also getting really annoying, and I was tired of him. There are also a few plot lines that lead nowhere, which is disappointing. The film could also have delved deeper into Alana's family. I wish they had given them more screen time and explained why she might have hung out with younger people rather than with people her age. Overall, the movie is a decent time; however, I can't get past the age gap. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth even thinking of it. I also really wish they'd changed the ending; it felt anticlimactic and could've been much better thematically. There are a few things you can do with the age gap, writing-wise, but PTA doesn't do much with it. Maybe worth watching.
