Cure
So meticulously fine tuned to the sheer point you literally can’t take your eyes off it is something I often don’t get the privilege of saying/experiencing with the exception of a colour drenched arthouse piece. To try and spew out whatever that two hour experience was would be nearly impossible but without going too deep into that rabbit hole Kiyoshi Kurosawa mind you this being my first of his manages to blend noir style visual modernism with an emotionally frustrated psychological narrative that pierces through the conventional mystery esque philosophy and instead offers a slow burn of unresolved events that cut so deep into who we believe ourselves to be personally and within society portrayed through a protagonist that offers next to no confirmation nor understanding and acts as that evil force that lingers within every inescapable question you’ve never confronted yourself with. Not a horror film on paper but its systematic surrealist structure had me debating whether to turn the light back on in my room. Genuinely one of the best thriller movies ever made and or best movie ever made.
