It Chapter Two
I am definitely a bit biased, but I just love this one.
After I read the first reviews for the movie I had my doubts. I was a little scared that I wouldn't like it that it would be just another shitty sequels which just wouldn't do justice to its predecessor.
Luckily I didn't feel that way. I love the movie. For the most part, Chapter 2 is the way I wanted it to be.
Unlike many others here I like the comedy parts in the movie. Only the cgi-puke-scene with Eddy and his monster was unnecessary. Which brings us to the second big criticism, the CGI.
You can definitely see that CGI was used here much more often than in the first chapter. But that is by no means a bad thing for me. I think it fits in the movie. The first chapter takes place in the 80s. The monsters of the 80s were brought to life through practical effects. The Gremlins, Freddy Krueger, The White Shark from Jaws (comes from the '70s, I know). All practical effects. These days, just a lot more CGI is being used, so it makes sense to me that the monsters will be computer-generated by 2019.
This brings us to an aspect that I find particularly successful. The transfer of the book' s 80s timeline into the year 2019. It fits easily. The gimmicks that were possible make it feel natural. And I like not only these gimmicks, but also and especially the film-technical gimmicks. Whether it's
the transitions at the beginning, between the introductions of the characters (the puzzle transition? Grest) or the ones in the finale (the toilet scene with Bev and Ben, for example). I think they are really great.
But what's the greatest thing about the movie is the cast. Better actors could not have been found. Really everybody, without exception, fit perfectly on the rolls and harmonize perfectly.
So, now to my little conclusion: I understand the points of criticism, but they do not really bother me and certainly not diminish the many things I love about It: Chapter 2.
