RIPLEY
Quite interesting. I think I liked the original better, but this was an original take. The plot diverges from the film about halfway through, and I had stopped watching right before that happened. I think the changes are for the better, at least within this medium.
The cinematography is brilliant, but the black and white just takes me out of it too much. Part of the original’s brilliance is making you understand why Ripley is so enchanted with the world he can’t have. Everything here just feels cold.
For the most part, the cast in the original is better (Damon, Law, Hoffman) though Marge’s character is elevated here in Fanning’s portrayal over Paltrow’s I think.
