Blade Runner
Blade Runner, more specifically the Final Cut of Blade Runner has held many different spots on my all-time rankings throughout my life. At one point it ranked as high as #3 (currently held by Oppenheimer). In 2021 I watched it, and found it did not hold my attention or quite captivate me. It took a tumble in my eyes, as I was disappointed that possibly it only worked for me through a teenagers gaze. In this viewing, I got the chance to see The Final Cut in a theater. While all other viewings have been in a more intimate setting, the depth of each shot almost makes a larger screen feel more isolated. I was blown away with how much Ridley Scott was able to do with such a small budget in Blade Runner. 2019 Los Angeles feels like another world, yet all too familiar to the modern one. The microcosms and small details really stood out to me this viewing. There is so much set design and care placed into every frame. I found myself completely transported into the Blade Runner universe for what I think is one of the most perfect runtimes a movie has ever had. It didn’t make it back up to #3, but I loved every minute. 8.69/10
