Good Will Hunting
Great movie. The screenplay is probably one of the most well-written I’ve ever heard, the dialogue is amazing.
The premise is not that crazy: Will, a janitor at MIT that is a natural genius, is forced to counseling with Sean, a professor at a community college. We learn of Will’s abuse that he’s suffered from, feeding into his fear of abandonment, with Sean’s grief from losing his wife and going back into the dating pool. I think the “it’s not your fault” scene is so beautiful and one of the most iconic from the movie.
The movie just feels real and authentic. The performances are great, especially Matt Damon and Robin Williams. It’s just a feel-good movie about pushing forward through one’s personal demons and to appreciate the people who are in your life (building connections rather than straying away from them). I like in the ending Will stays true to his character and goes on a drive to California to meet with Skyler instead of the job opportunity.
