Pollock
Mixed feelings about this film.
The performances of the leads are excellent- Marcia Gay Harden and Ed Harris as painters Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock respectively give out of body performances where you truly believe it is them in these roles. Marcia’s Oscar-winning scene is really great, where Lee shuns Jackson’s desire to have children due to him being a troubled alcoholic. She kind of bodies the role and the film itself.
The score is really great, and I do like the visuals, especially after Lee and Jackson move from NYC to a more rural environment.
What I don’t like as much is the rest of the film. It’s fine, completely passable, but it’s kind of bland. Not boring but forgettable. We don’t really get to know who Jackson Pollock is as a person, a lot of the characterization feels external such as his drinking behavior that ultimately leads to his death. As a whole though, definitely not bad and elevated by Marcia and Ed.
