Carrie
You have to think about this in the time it was made for. Seeing the trailer, I thought they had misused the mother and hadn’t shown enough of her craziness from the original film. But as I watched this in a day, I was wrong. This series is incredible, the original 1976 film is a five out of five for me so this was a huge announcement when I found out this was coming out. I was thrilled with what I watched. This has to be one of my favorite limited series of all time. Summer H Howell puts in an Emmy winning performance, similar to what I saw on adolescence last year, even with the different subject matter. I heard she didn’t watch any of the older films for this and she was right doing that because she was incredible in this and did justice to the 76 film while adjusting to modern times. I loved the direction the film took to display this in our times, delivering an authentic portrayal of contemporary high school life by avoiding the crutch of meme culture and brain rot humor. It doesn’t use internet trends to drive its comedy and drama, it does utilize social media to capture the lived experiences and realities of modern high school life and internet bullying and how that affects the community as a whole. Answering all the small questions we would’ve had nowadays from the older films while weaving in new storylines that still make sense in the overall story, filing in the gaps the film didn’t have the runtime to do. Also, people just getting introduced to Carrie now can easily follow it all from this.
Incredible work Mike Flanagan
Summer better win an Emmy for this
