Scream 2
Following up one of the greatest slasher films ever made feels like an almost impossible task, but Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson somehow pull it off. Every time I rewatch Scream 2, it inches closer to being my favorite over the original… almost.
It ups the ante in all the right ways more suspense, more elaborate chase sequences, a higher body count, and even sharper meta commentary. The fact that it dissects sequels while simultaneously being one of the best horror sequels ever made is kind of genius. It doesn’t just continue the story; it expands the conversation about horror itself.
And the ensemble here is so strong. Every character feels distinct and fully realized, which makes the rewatches even better. You start catching the little Easter eggs and subtle clues pointing to the killers, and it makes you appreciate how carefully constructed it all is.
It’s honestly hard to choose between Scream and Scream 2. I don’t really see them as competing films they feel like companion pieces, two halves of the same razor-sharp love letter to horror.
