I’ve finally sat down and watched this start to finish opposed to catching 30 mins on itv4 every saturday for my whole childhood. Obviously fantastic in its scale, and set pieces. Lots of fantastic characters - Boromir and Aragorn the stand outs. The last 30 mins are the standout in my opinion, Boromirs death being the hardest hitting moment of the movie. However, I think some of the characters aren’t totally great such as Pippin, Sam and Legolas as of yet - I’m sure they will get better but they still 3 hours to work with and they didn’t get much, if any development or good moments other than maybe Sam in the last 10. I think you definitely can feel its length, but that might be because I kept recognising scenes. I think the second and third movies will be even better as this one is almost a massive prelude for Frodo and Sam’s journey.

yeh the fireworks scene might be the best scene ever. Also considering I’d already watched this two days prior, this watch absolutely flew by.

I’m really conflicted on what to give this because it was damn amazing but I pride my 5 stars so highly, but I think it just gets in the club. The story is so unique and doesn’t let you go for a second. The direction is unbelievable, the split diopter shots are so cool and scene with Travolta on the bridge is an all timer. Lithgow as the villain is so good and adds such a necessary menace for the second half. The ending is also literally like top 5 i’ve ever watched. Fucking love Travolta man.

I think the story for this is better than the first. however… the script is miles worse and the sister plot didn’t move me at all ngl. Elijah Wood was lowk kinda great
