2046
men experience 1 failed situationship and spiral for the rest of their life, relishing in the fictions of their writing to cope :/
2046 was the perfect finale to the trilogy. strong as a standalone film, it definitely adds nuance having prior understanding of the characters' pasts and motivations. stuck in the past and a shell of his former self, the hauntingly enchanting soundtrack beautifully paralled tony leung's ghost of a character. as aesthetic as the cinematography was, the impact of the film must be credited to the riveting performance by the actors. the heavy focus on character study relied on their mastery to drive the fragmented retelling of a man's life interspersed with his self-inserts into a cohesive story, while lending depth to their character so as to not blend into the background amidst the constant rotation of deuteragonists. rushing the film would mean missing out on many cursory glances and elusive details, and wong kar-wai's hallmark melancholic subtlety was what made this an immensely meaningful and enjoyable watch.
my dad told me this would be the hardest installment to watch and grasp, and my friend said he didn't really understand it either. as stinky men i can see why you guys would say that but that couldn't be me
