**[One Year One Film (22/116)](https://boxd.it/U7nLe)** Not much to say about this one, but it really is a classic that everyone should watch at least once. Great rendition of the tale, really shows why man shouldn’t play God. This just didn’t stick out and resonate with me in any special way.

[**One Year One Film (21/116)** ](https://boxd.it/U7nLe)The films finally have sound! For a film so old, the production scale of this is honestly insane. I’m not that fond of war movies in general, but I really liked the message here. This film manages to show the harsh reality of wartimes, and is still so relevant in our modern times. However, the ensemble cast really made it hard to keep track of who’s who, making it really difficult for me to really feel for the characters emotionally.

*This review may contain spoilers.* Nobody can even comprehend how fucking happy I am to finally be able to watch this. Obsession had been my most awaited film entering 2026 (alongside Project Hail Mary). I had been DYING to watch it since Nikki was still a faceless character in all the promotions. After enduring all my favorite filmtokers and letterboxd mutuals glazing the hell out of this film for more than a month, and after begging to every local cinemas and distributors to release this, it finally aired in my country. I knew I would love this film since I first laid eyes on it, and damn was I right. Obsession is such a well-crafted horror film that it’s super hard to believe it is Curry Barker’s first feature film. The whole film has an eerie atmosphere to it, with amazing scoring and sound that really immerse you into the atmosphere. It doesn’t rely on cheap jumpscares to shock the viewers, but instead maintains its eerie atmosphere all throughout the film. The tension buildup really makes you paranoid in almost every scene, but the actual shock will come when you least expect it. Unexpectedly, this film also has a really great romantic atmosphere. However, Barker really knows the perfect moment to cut these romantic scenes (just when the audience is starting to feel the love in the air). This really causes the audience to snap back in and remind them what the film is actually about, which happened to me a good couple of times. The settings are also accompanied by spectacular camera shots, feeding you intense visuals for 109 minutes. Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston has my favorite performance of the year (if not all time) so far, and it’s crazy that this comes from less-experienced actors. A lot of people had been talking about how great Inde Navarrette’s acting is, and I absolutely agree. Navarrette manages to play Nikki in such a haunting yet heartbreaking way, her facial and voice controls are actually crazy. But a lot of people are sleeping on Johnston’s acting, he manages to compliment Navarrette’s acting incredibly well, with none overshadowing the other. Before watching this film, I avoided all trailers and any form of spoilers. Despite ending up seeing a few clips or so, this still manages to blow my already high expectations in ways I couldn’t grasp. The gore in this absolutely shocked me, with story line that just keeps getting better with the runtime. I can’t remember the last time I gasped and opened my mouth that drastically when watching a film. Aside from the horror elements, Obsession also leaves a really emotional feeling. It’s really hard not to feel for all the characters, and when you do, it leaves your gut wrenched. Even if we know deep down our main character isn’t a good guy, I personally can’t help but also feel for him at the end. The climax and ending is literal perfection, they gave us visuals I didn’t even know was an option. And once the credit finally rolls, NOBODY in my entire theatre moved from their seats, everyone still stunned and/or in awe by the film (including me). They picked the perfect needle drop for the credits, and hearing Nikki screaming through it is just a haunting experience. So if you can’t tell, I absolutely adore this film. Trust that I will be frontline for Curry Barker’s next work.
