Arrival
this movie is not about aliens. it’s about grief. about language. about time. about choosing pain because love is worth it.
and honestly? that said, please take her to therapy. immediately.
amy adams really said “i will learn an alien language, unlock nonlinear time, and walk directly into a future where i know i will lose everything” — like girl… blink twice if you’re not okay.
the way this movie gently destroys you… it just hands you a soft blanket, holds your hand, and tells you that you’re going to hurt forever. thanks!
also shoutout to the heptapods for showing up looking like minimalist octopus prophets. love that for them.
jeremy renner plays a physicist who falls in love with a linguist after watching her speak alien for 90 days straight. honestly relatable.
i watched this and genuinely thought about majoring in linguistics. or maybe just texting someone i miss and blaming it on the concept of time.
this film made me cry like quietly. like “staring into space after the credits” cry.
final thought: if i knew everything that would happen — the love, the loss, the ache — and still said yes… that would either be really brave or really stupid.
but it would be very human.
anyway. please someone make amy adams lie down. and give her a hug.
