Sinners
this movie is unhinged in a way i really enjoyed.
first of all: michael b. jordan. sorry. respectfully. but also not that respectfully. the twin thing? unfair. evil. genuinely distracting at times. like i was trying to process generational trauma and then he’d show up on screen again and i’d forget what the metaphor was.
anyways, sinners feels hot and not just aesthetically, but emotionally. everything is sweaty, loud, dramatic, a little too much, and very aware of it. it doesn’t try to be polite or minimal. it wants to overwhelm you, and honestly i let it. it’s horror but also kind of operatic, biblical, almost theatrical in the way it talks about sin, guilt, inheritance, and violence.
the soundtrack deserves its own moment. it’s so good. the kind of music that crawls under your skin and makes everything feel heavier, more doomed, more intense. there were scenes where the sound alone was doing half the emotional work, and i loved that.
is it subtle? no. at all. is it a little indulgent? yes. but i kind of respected that it didn’t pretend otherwise. it commits fully to its vibe, even when it’s doing the most. i’d rather that than another movie that’s scared of its own emotions.
it’s not perfect, and there are moments where it drags or gets a bit carried away with itself. but it’s alive. it has personality. and it made me feel something the entire time, even if that feeling was sometimes just “wow he is extremely hot.”
great music. great vibes. great men.
