Another Round
Knew that I would love this movie from the scene where they celebrate Nic's 40th birthday. It tells everything about the background in a way that is both subtle and empathy arousing.
Each of them has an alcohol-related story, but it seems to be more than that. Perhaps it's also relating to midlife crises or even how hard to simply live life. Compared to most, being in a developed country with stable income and abundant resources seems desirable but It doesn't fail to convey the feeling of how hard to be a person. Tommy's makes me afraid of being alone, while others do the opposite. Despite being a teacher, Martin's still convincing enough to show how easy one could lose almost everything, influences, or even discourse as a person. Nic seems to have no problem at first, but we know none of them does.
That mixed feeling I had towards the end was so strong. Peter gets a girlfriend, martin's wife comes back to him, Tommy finally has his student's respect, and Nic gets back on the right track. But think about that, those are nothing exceptional while they lost their best friend (forget about Martin can finally make amends simply because his wife probably got dumped)
