Moonlight
“you’re the only man that’s ever touched me. you’re the only one.”
wow. like WOW. there’s so many wonderful things about this movie i don’t even know where to start honestly. the cinematography was beautiful. the soundtrack/score was perfect, everything was so intentionally well done. the acting from all 3 ages of chiron was outstanding. despite never being on screen together, they all had the mannerisms of chiron down pact to the point it almost felt like they were one person together. seeing young chiron and juan interact together was so touching and i wish we got a little closure about their relationship, but that’s just how it is in life. the actors for chiron were all so expressive with their eyes and body movements, it really made this story more powerful somehow? there’s a difference in being told what the character is thinking vs seeing it for yourself as a viewer, and i really appreciate that this movie focused on the latter.
as a gay black woman, this really hit close to home. the experiences of black queer people are so incredibly different from other people and sometimes i think people forget that, and this movie was a reminder. while our experiences were not quite the same, i still felt represented in such a beautiful work of art. this movie was amazing in so many ways i can’t even begin to describe, what i’ve said doesn’t even cover it.
