Saving Face

this is the land of your people. some movies are so insane it's like nauseating. I'm going to start of technical because I cannot get into the story of this movie without bawling like a baby. The sound track works so well and shows things the characters may not be able to express, the way scenes are cut into these acts based on the sound of her pager. The colours in the shots to show characters who are arguing Vs when they're reunited, the shots that metaphorically represent what's happening without anything else, the intricacies of Asian western diasporas represented in this Chinese American movie, yes but so much of it is a mirror to so many other cultures. The colours were also just so gorgeous Conversations and love that slip in between the scenes, the copy paste of these internal moments I think every queer Asian girl has faced into this movie. It's just so good. And it's not just a rom com it's about different kinds of love and maternal love which is why I think it does such a stand out job. I think if I wasn't crying I was tearing up or laughing for most of this movie I really do love it. I'm so sick and tired of women having to sacrifice one or another in fiction because they can have it all and I hope this movie finds the girls it needs to find.
