Malcolm X
We didn't land on Plymouth Rock; the rock was landed on us
I have rarely used “powerful performance” much in my days but I don’t think there’s anything else that can describe what I just watched…
You watch this and wonder if there was even an audition for Denzel I mean fuck. Having studied a little bit of Malcom, watching speeches and reading up on who he was/became, Denzel captured it perfectly. I don’t think a single other actor pulls this off. The conviction, strength, and confidence Malcolm spoke and lived with was unparalleled yet he did it in this performance. Not enough words to explain how impressive this was.
Ms Bassett you will never do wrong in my eyes. She’s one of the few actresses/actors that I finish a movie and wish she had more screentime. Damnit give me 3.5hrs of just her absolutely frying any role.
Del Roy, my brother. It’s not always pretty. It’s not always loud. But this guy here is always on time. They talk about a “glue guy” in basketball and I don’t know if any term fits him better. You catch an interview and he seems like the nicest, most genuine person on this earth and then that switch flips and he’s completely dialed.
Do not revoke my card for saying I’ve been sleep on Spike as a director for 25 years. I saw him as the Knicks courtside guy and the MJ “it’s gotta be the shoes” guy (exaggerating). Now I can’t get enough of how he speaks to our culture and our history. My BHM list is 1 more movie away from just becoming a Spike Lee joint marathon.
To cap this yap sesh off, I gotta give praise to the man himself. When the police officer says “that’s too much power for one man”, you start to understand why the sentiment at the time was what it was. Never before seen levels of motion on that guy Malcolm X.
