Three Colors: Red
every so often, you see a movie on your watchlist for the millionth time and decide to watch it and proceed to have your mind blown.
starting with the color, lighting, angles, etc… genuinely some of the best work I’ve seen. i mean people talk about directors being boring now and guys like Chan-wook are lapping the field (compliment). there were at least 15 times during these 90+ minutes where I had to appreciate how this was filmed.
i got through maybe half of it wondering where we’re going and then you start to see things tie together more and more. I felt as if the young judge’s storyline was being purposely forgotten and then you realize it’s being purposely spoon fed to you in the most perfect but subtle way.
Irene Jacob is a name id heard before but wouldn’t be able to tell you where. I can whole heartedly tell you, now, I will never forget.
Deserves a second watch that I think (and have read) will make me enjoy and appreciate even more. 100% deserving of the praise it gets.
First watch from my French film list. Going there soon and trying to get some gems in my watched list before I do!!
