painfully accurate depiction of the republican underbelly of minnesota

can a foundational text get any more foundational than this? i was blown away and feel so grateful to have seen this in a theater. i can only imagine how radical a movie like this was at the time even just with the idea of living in a way that feels authentic to you…and that’s not even covering any of the subtext connected to that. when her son bought her a television to provide her with artificial companionship and keep her complacent i was gagged…it is sad how this is more relevant than ever. so ahead of its time and profound…and not to mention GORGEOUS!! america is so artificial and vapid. as a todd haynes worshipper this exponentially deepened my appreciation of far from heaven and i was surprised at how elements of this can be found in all his truly great movies (safe, carol, and may december). melodrama is my favorite genre…thank you douglas sirk🙏🏻
