“sometimes i think i have felt everything i’m ever gonna feel. and from here on out, i’m not gonna feel anything new. just lesser versions of what i’ve already felt.”i’ve never watched a film like this before, nothing so beautiful yet undyingly bitter sweet. it felt real. it felt so real and raw. this is a society, our society, desperate for love and a purpose- confiding in another’s company, even though not physically. you know that not only that the acting is done amazingly but also the camera work, the colouring, music, script, everything... it all untangled a spiralling chain of emotions from the depths of me. each scene i felt with my entire being- as if i was there. as if i was apart of the story, the relationship between theodore and samantha or rather.... lack of.
when the song ‘the moon song’ which was co-written by the director spike jonze started playing... i lost it. that song was fucking perfection for this movie and that scene in particular. this director, i have not seen anything else from him but oh my god, he knows what he’s doing. he created something so stunning and every little detail and component was simply to die for. and to have joaquin phoenix as theodore? genius. pure genius. mr phoenix from what i’ve seen him in, is the master in this types of movies. a movie was depth, subjective meaning and an intense amount of range in regards to emotions and actions. i couldn’t be more in love!
don’t even get me started on the cinematography. DON’T EVEN. the constant golden hue, like a beautifully consistent golden hour... it felt so dream-like! so, make-belief and euphoric! the shots of the city skylines and the use of the colouring of when theodore was in love and happy, that was when the world seem so dreamlike in colour but when he was confused or sad, the world became dull, grey and lacklustre. especially with the ending until he learned to deal with it, learned to deal with this human emotion. to see a male character portrayed as so vulnerable felt so refreshing because it was done right! god, it was done.. fantastically. this is our society being portrayed from a futuristic point of view.
