The Fall
“I hope I never get better, because I want to stay here with you.”
[…]
“*That story was just a trick to get you to do something for me. You should ask someone else.” *
[…]
”Why are you making everybody die?”
”It’s my story.”
”It’s mine too.”
What a tender, gorgeous film.
There’s something quietly evil about telling a little girl a beautiful story to get her to help you die.
I (unfortunately) thought of Camus’s watching this, not because he wrote The Fall (unrelated), but there are a rare few moments where it’s proven true that suicide is truly the only serious philosophical problem. But Roy Walker isn’t evil, neither is suicide.
Haven’t we all been Alexandria before? We all want to believe the stories we’re told by the people we love. Storytelling and love are truly what bring us together and keep us on this Earth.
The Fall is a film that makes life worth living.
Everyone should watch it in the theater if they can. No one stood up from their seats for the first few minutes after the credits rolled, I’m pretty sure most of us were crying. I left the auditorium laughing but in tears— the mark of true cinema!!!
