the theme here was clear from the get-go pretty much — the monotony of raising a family was being hyped as “the pinnacle of humanity” but ultimately became a life-sucker for the both of them. it’s a good metaphor, but i will say i did expect more surprises from this film so it kinda fell short for me + there was a clear sub-plot here about feeding a supernatural beast that i thought would be touched upon more… that actually was the more interesting part for me (e.g., the weird book, the subliminal messaging from the tv, the terrifying creature like mimics). the scene where the adult boy-thing is leading gemma into a hypnotic nightmare maze actually had me rly intrigued. i personally wish the film touched upon that more + i predicted the ending halfway through the film and was kinda disappointed about being right lol

this film should be an attest to indie filmmakers anywhere that no matter how niche your idea is, it’s a story that deserves to be told. incredible film

don’t watch baseball at all, but this was a great film :] + a rly good testament to sports psychology techniques too! not everything can be boiled down to a science — team building and group dynamics are everything to overall success

speechless… del toro captures the text near perfectly onto the screen and adds his own signatures to make it even better + the commentary on generational trauma always gives me shivers
