Moon Knight
The entire premise of this show is so ridiculous. Ancient Egyptian gods possessing people as avatars to do their vengeance or justice, split personalities, giant alligators swallowing souls, a hippo controlling the underworld….it just goes on and on. But I still cared enough to come back for a rewatch, and there is really only one solid reason for this: Oscar Isaac. He brings so much to this role, for a company that seemingly doesn’t really understand the caliber of talent he brings to the table. The Marc/Steven storyline is the most interesting part of this entire series, and episode 5 was by far the best installment because of this. I really wish they would’ve explored that even more, instead of an entire episode about them being chased by an Egyptian zombie???? Layla is a semi-interesting character, and Ethan Hawke is…also there. The moral struggle between Conchu and Ammit over whether people should be judged for who they are now or who they might become is also compelling at times, but it’s overshadowed by open endings and details that are never fully explained that the writers expect you to follow because “ancient Egypt.”
If I recommend Moon Knight to you, it would be 95% on the basis of Oscar Isaac’s performance, but also 5% because this show feels a little different than some of the other Marvel projects as of late, which is refreshing when it works.
