misty performs a monologue from steel magnolias as a baby shower gift for shauna. (season 2 episode 3, digestif) "For my gift, I would like to perform a monologue from Steel Magnolias." she exhales. "We turned off the machines. Drum left. He couldn't take it. Jackson left. I find it amusing. Men are supposed to be made out of steel or something. I was there when that wonderful creature drifted into my life. And I was there when she drifted out. It was the most precious moment of my life." "Did she really choose a scene about a dead daughter?" taissa whispers. "Are you surprised?" natalie responds. "I'm fine!" she cries, "I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm fine! I can jog all the way to Texas and back, but my daughter can't. She never could! Oh, God, I'm so mad. All that baby will ever know is how wonderful his mother was. He will never know what she went through for him. Oh, God. I want to know why! Why?! Oh, God, I wish I could understand. No, no. Mm-mm. No. It's not supposed to happen this way. I was supposed to go first. I was always supposed to go first. I don't think I can do this, I just," she inhales, "I want to hit somebody until they feel as bad as I do. I just- God, I want to hit them. I want to- I want to hit something! I want to hit it hard!"

this is definitely one of the most connected films to yellowjackets. (its one of jackies favorite movies (most likely) and is integral to her and shaunas relationship) its referenced by jackie during the fight with shauna. in season 1 ep 10, sic transit gloria mundi, shauna yells at her, "the rest of us, we're just extras in the movie of your fucking life!" here jackie retorts "did i force you to live in my shadow, shauna? it must be hard being this jealous all the time. you're so jealous of me you can barely breathe." "are you quoting beaches at me right now?" shauna dismisses her entire argument, and jackie denies it. in s2 ep 1, there's two times where crystal is humming "the glory of love" and is told to shut up, which could be a beaches reference. in s2 ep 5, there's a VHS of beaches in vans video shop.
