It's a Sin
I was really interested to check out this series as ive gotten into Doctor Who massively recently and realised that I hadn't seen any of Russell T. Davies work outside of it. After watching this miniseries over the weekend all I can really say is wow, i am stunned at how incredibly good the man is at writing drama and I absolutely will be checking out more of his work.
But as for the series, it is simply incredible. It starts off as such a stylish, funny and very bold slice of the 80s with a cracking soundtrack and mostly keeps that as the series goes on but at the same time what it is telling is a very important piece of history that obviously hasn't and won't go away any time soon. The main characters start off skeptical and naive to the entire thing which you kind of understand because to quote the show itself, how could it only affect gay men?
But like the characters we too quickly realise it is a very real thing, although i'm sure everybody watching did know that already, the gradual build up really drums it in as if you didn't.
To put it lightly, It is heartbreaking, brutal and unflinching with it's storytelling at times and it made me cry on multiple occasions and i simply can't put into words how unfair and devestating a disease AIDS is. When it needs to hit you it will hit you hard and it will be impossible not to think about long after you finish it.
Every single lead performance deserves a mention as well because from what i can tell most of them are relatively unknown but they do such an amazing job and deserve to have long and promising careers. I don't really know what else to say except please watch this series as it is brilliant and it is vital.
