Watchmen
Not how I would have ever envisioned a sequel to Watchmen, a comic that feels so standalone that one should never have worked anyway, to look.. and I do mean that as high praise.
It does pay homage to the legacy it's original characters left behind in a respectful and sincere manner, but it doesn't feel like it's doing it for fans to point at the screen like Leonardo Dicaprio, everything feels like it's there for the purpose of pushing a whole new narrative that stands on it's own 2 feet and drives the stories of it's new characters forward. A real best of both worlds scenario.
It's a proper puzzlebox where the pieces only truly come together once all 9 episodes have been watched, but if you're willing to stick with something a little more challenging then 5 years later i can only sing the praises for a very unique companion piece to one of the most interesting comic book stories out there and in fact one of the more unique limited series in general.
