Climax
I’m honestly at a loss for words.
These are the kinds of films that just perfectly tickle my brain. I’m someone who’s way more into what a movie makes me feel and what it makes me see rather than just a great story, and this delivers exactly what I love.
For the first 40 minutes or so, I kept thinking, “Wow, is this really all that’s going to happen?” Don’t get me wrong—the music, dancing, and overall energy completely pull you in. The camera work is spectacular, and everything feels hypnotic. But the film doesn’t truly become what it is until the second half.
Once things start spiraling, the movie turns into a complete mindfuck. It genuinely shocks you how quickly everything falls apart. One second everyone is together having fun, and the next everything becomes pure chaos. Nobody expects it, and that’s what makes it hit so hard.
The way Gaspar Noé uses lighting is some of the best I’ve ever seen. Every hallway with its different colors feels like entering another world, almost like stepping through portals into different layers of insanity that are all somehow connected.
The way the film conveys horror and the feeling of being completely drugged out is phenomenal. The spinning camera, the long takes, the constant feeling of panic and despair—it all feels overwhelming in the best way possible. Every character is dealing with their own nightmare, and even though you aren’t with them for very long, it still feels like you understand them enough for everything happening to hit hard.
This is one of those movies that’s hard to fully explain. You don’t just watch it—you feel it in your body. By the end, I was just sitting there in complete awe of what I had seen.
After this, I’m definitely exploring more of Gaspar Noé’s work because this completely blew me away.
