“You're on their side, aren't you? So, who will you bet with?”
Holy shit, this film was disturbing in the best way. One of the first things I noticed was how much I enjoyed the fourth wall breaks. For some reason, I always hope movies will do this, and this one completely caught me off guard since I had no idea it was coming. I am really glad I went in blind.
Another thing I loved is how realistic the movie stays. At the end, I honestly thought Anna was going to live, but I am glad she did not. A lot of people would have preferred that, but Michael Haneke chose to keep it devastating and believable, which made it hit harder.
The long shots might feel boring to some people, but I thought they were great. They really capture what the family is going through and let you see how much they slowly break down. The acting was phenomenal across the board and made everything feel even more real.
Overall, this movie was incredible and deeply unsettling. I definitely want to watch more films by Michael Haneke.
