Hamnet
Hamnet is the definition of beautiful. There is so much to say about this film, but it really starts with the performances. Jessie Buckley gives a performance of a lifetime—completely devastating in the best way. Honestly, every performance is stellar and just pulls you straight into your feels. Paul Mescal gives such an underrated performance and absolutely should’ve been nominated, alongside Jacobi Jupe, who delivers one of the best child performances I’ve seen in a long time.
On top of that, the cinematography is exactly what I love: long, wide shots that let scenes breathe and develop, encouraging you to take in every little detail within the frame. And the score—just incredible. The final sequence is something I’ll remember for a very long time. With the beautiful music, the acting, and the overall message, everything feels perfectly handcrafted.
If I really think about it, there isn’t any criticism I can make about this film. I do wish I had gotten the chance to see it on the big screen, which probably would’ve enhanced the experience even more, but even without that, this movie is pure art.
“Our children’s hearts beat, they smile, play. Never forget for a moment, they may be gone.”
