Oldboy

“Laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone.” Coming into this film, I had very high expectations and it didn’t fail. After just watching Fallen Angels, which has some of the best camerawork I’ve ever seen, this movie comes very close. When scenes zoomed in on a character’s face or followed them through a moment, it was beautiful. I know everyone talks about the hallway scene, but my favorite moment is when Dae-su gives back the ring and the camera circles around the room. When Dae-su breaks down, it’s one of the best breakdown scenes I’ve ever seen. I’d also say Oldboy probably has the best villain in all of movies. And with some more glazing, I’d say the twist was one of the best I’ve ever seen. There was no way in my mind I expected incest, let alone double incest. It’s probably the craziest revenge story I’ve ever seen, especially for something that started over such a small thing. To wrap it up, I’m very happy I finally watched Oldboy. I’ve been getting hounded to see it for a while, and it absolutely lived up to the glaze.
