Cure
Who are you? Tell me about yourself.

I absolutely love the way this was shot. I love how in the first crime scene when they finally cut to the body the camera lingered a couple seconds too long before a hard cut to the next scene. I love how before the second and third crimes we got wide shots of the perpetrators and Mamiya meeting them and as the impending doom set in, the camera gets closer. I also love how before we get to the tipping point there is one last wide shot before we get another close up.
The third crime intrigued me because when the scene starts both parties are alive, victim and perpetrator, when I had assumed the victim to be dead before he walks into frame, and just as he's about to leave the scene the perpetrator pulls out a gun and shoots him, all done in a wide shot, all done somewhat casually, it wasn't at all theatrical or dramatic, which could be said about all the crimes. The casual way they show them to us deeply unsettled me.
I love how in the fourth crime we get another wide shot then cut to an up close shot of the water as he tips it, cut to her, cut to the water getting closer to her, quick cut to him clearly across the room, he starts the hypnosis, then we cut to him standing directly in front of her. I love how the distance between them affects the scene, how in the beginning she is the one who is asking the questions and she is the one moving and she is the one clearly leading the scene, then the shift, when he stands up and asks her a question while her head is turnt down and then we see him standing over her making her head stay down, he is clearly leading the scene now and is the one on control. It seems to me like this a big part of the hypnosis as he stated that she is disgusted by men and hates that she had to work harder to become a doctor and here he is, a man literally making her smaller then him.
I love how the very sharp cuts, lingering shots, and quick shots affect the atmosphere. I love how it made me feel, how when he kept saying "who are you?". I felt so disturbed as if he were talking to me and looking at me. I think that may have been the purpose and why this is indeed a horror, it makes you think about yourself and who you are deep down, who you are outside of your connections, who you are when no one else is around.
I love this film. I love this cinematography. This has definitely been the clearest I've seen a film and how everything works to together to build it, maybe I just haven't been paying as much attention to others, but seeing this one so completely overwhelmed me so much tears started streaming down my face, its so beautiful.
I love this film. ☆
