Really starting to love Fincher's style. Both this and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo are films with quite a lengthy runtime but manage to engage their audience in such an effective and authentic way. I genuinely think Fincher should be in conversation alongside Tarantino for some of the best writers when it comes to dialogue. Every character very subtlety as their own unique sense of personality and quirks with their lines, both coming from the writing and the performances by the actors. Everyone in this film is giving it their A game especially Robert Downey Jr. who in my opinion gives his career best. Sometimes I kind of find his style of acting and line delivery a bit annoying especially in movies or scenes where it doesn't fit, but his natural charisma and charm really adds a sense of levity in scenes, and even in more serious scenes his acting doesn't let up. Jake Gyllenhaal does a great job as usual, I'm really impressed at how naturally he can play characters in such realistic and human ways, and Mark Ruffalo was actually pretty watchable in this, I think he's at his best when he plays more grounded characters.
Yeah, overall great movie, great acting, the score while minimal is tense and used appropriately, editing is smooth and neatly put together, and the general viewing experience was very entertaining I absolutely love when director's can make a 2 and a half hour movie feel like you wasted no time watching them.
