Generation Kill
“that was cool, who do we invade now?”
ray has the vibe of that one guy in band who says the most problematic stuff but every now and then he cooks. this was great and had everything i would expect from an hbowar show, its bleak, brutal and as a viewer you gain a range of takes on whats happening through the eyes of different characters. its doesn’t feel like a show that is telling you how to feel instead you get a relatively raw peek into what it would have been like to have been there. the narrative of the reporter along with those of the marines and higher ranking officers all offer crucial insight as to how this “war” played out. you get to feel the shock of witnessing war crimes and active combat, you sit with these characters as they both question their actions and then attempt to rationalize them. some offer indifference, others remorse and several express a terrifying display of contempt. in between the the jokes and the surprisingly decent sing alongs there is some great commentary in here. the concluding scene is by far one of the greatest in my opinion and represents their inability in the end to face what happened while they were there. you see them laugh and pat each other on the back and then slowly one by one they leave. like wow. i can definitely understand why compared to band of brothers and the pacific this show isn’t nearly as popular but i do think it has relevance, especially today. (also mildly inappropriate side note: i need lt. nate fick BAD) thats all folks!
